Lycoming College is hiring a Director of Student Engagement to join the student life team.

Lycoming College, one of the nation’s oldest residential liberal arts and sciences colleges, invites candidates to apply for the Director of Student Engagement position.

This position provides opportunities for meaningful campus engagement serving as a member of the College’s leadership collaborative to facilitate leadership development through social responsibility, self-authorship, and leadership development for students.  Fulfilling this role requires the Director to be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences of all members of Lycoming’s increasingly diverse community and be adept at supporting and enhancing the campus experience of all with whom they work.

This is a full-time position that is benefits eligible. The chosen candidate must be available to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends, and must have a valid US driver’s license.

What will I do in this role?


Student Engagement
  • Partner with the Coordinator for Student Engagement to create meaningful student engagement that serves and respects all students, faculty and staff and fosters inclusivity and a sense of belonging
  • Supervise Coordinator for Student Engagement, Student Engagement Managers and AmeriCorps member
  • Oversee Clubs, Organizations and FSL
  • Oversee evening and weekend programming sponsored by the department and by student organizations that will appeal to all students of unique identities and lived experiences.
  • Serve as advisor to the Campus Activities Board
    • Review, amend, and co-sign all performer and service contracts for all campus organizations
    • Assist in the promotion and dissemination of information about programs, activities and events.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of major college events including but not limited to 1st Weekend/Welcome Week, Involvement Fair, Homecoming, Family Weekend, Fall Carnival, and Concerts, Thanksgiving Dinner, Late Night Breakfast, etc.
  • Develop and oversee themed month programming, Black History, Special Topics (i.e., historical or current event related.) that fosters a sense of inclusivity and belonging
  • Serve as a member of the Student Life Leadership Collaborative to advance student leadership that respects all students (unique identities and lived experiences)
  • Oversee and maintain the Campus Calendar


Fraternity and Sorority Life
  • Coordinate with the Student Life Leadership Collaborative to provide FSL/Chapter leadership programming
  • Oversee the Chapter Standards process
  • Provide Chapter Advisor training
  • Serve as the FSL Council advisor
  • Oversee processes related to recruitment and expansion
  • Facilitate the planning and presentation of programs to address high-risk behaviors such as hazing, alcohol and other drug use, as well as bystander training and sexual assault prevention programs.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, alumni advisory boards, faculty and staff advisors, alumni (in general), and parents to advance the mission and values of the fraternity and sorority community.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to Fraternity & Sorority Life
  • Support the interest and activities of the Alumni Council for Fraternity & Sorority Life

What are we looking for?

Education Requirements Master’s Degree Required - Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or Equivalent Preferred.

Experience and Qualifications:  Requires a working knowledge of student development theory as it relates to advising individual students, student organizations, and general student life issues.  The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a variety of people including students, faculty, staff, and the general public is essential.  The position requires experience either as a professional or as an undergraduate in a fraternity or sorority. Further, the position requires knowledge of basic student leadership development theories.  Strong organizational and time management skills are needed along with a keen ability to give attention to detail and accuracy.  Incumbent must be able to work independently on assignments and projects as well as having the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.  Knowledge of window-based applications is needed such as: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint, with the desire and ability to learn new software applications.

  • Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates ability to give attention to detail and accuracy in all work
