Lycoming College is hiring a Vice President for Student Affairs and Success
As the Chief Student Affairs Officer, the Vice President for Student Affairs and Success is primarily responsible for providing strategic leadership, direction, and supervision to the personnel, programs and services of the Division of Student Life; ensuring that Division policies and goals support the College’s mission; initiating programs and collaborations that integrate academic, civic and community life; interpreting and responding to student behavior and concerns; overseeing student success and retention efforts; managing the College’s NCAA division III athletics program; representing the student body and the Division of Student Life to the College and Williamsport communities; advising the President on institutional, divisional, and student initiatives, concerns, and achievements; and actively participating in the President’s Cabinet.

What will I do in this role?
- Manage and oversee the staffing and program budget for student life, student success, athletics, and health and counseling services. Recruit, train and evaluate professional and support staff within the Division of Student Affairs and Success.
- Support the Dean of Students to provide leadership and strategic management of a diverse set of programs, activities, and services including residential life, student programs and leadership development, community standards, outdoor leadership and education, public safety, fraternity and sorority life, community service, civic engagement, and campus recreation and intramurals.
- Provide strategic support to the Dean of Academic Services and Student Success and the offices of academic services, student accommodations, student of concern and referral management system, and first year scheduling/advising.
- Coordinate and lead student success and retention efforts across the campus community working closely with department heads and stakeholders.
- Supervise the college’s NCAA Division III athletic program and promote initiatives that integrate athletics into the broader fabric of campus life.
- Oversee, develop, and interpret College policies and regulations as they pertain to students and the student handbook.
- Partner with student affairs colleagues and the offices of enrollment and information technology to create a seamless onboarding of new students.
- Oversee and execute best practices and plans related to crisis management and communications, incidence response, and emergency preparedness.
- Design and coordinate internal planning, assessment and quality improvement process for evaluating division programs, activities and services.
- Work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and other administrators to support orientation activities that promote academic and co-curricular success.
- Work collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer to manage the College’s student health insurance and food service contracts.
- Serve on the President’s Administrative Cabinet.
- Provide support and guidance to the Board of Trustees and the Student Life and Enrollment Management and Marketing Committees, specifically.
- Serve on and support faculty, staff, and alumni committees and councils, representing the needs and priorities of students and the student life division while working to serve the broader needs of the institution.
- Collaborate with other officers of the College to plan capital improvements, strategic initiatives, and institutional priorities.
- Represent and promote student issues, the Division of Student Life and the College in the Williamsport community.
What are we looking for?
Educational Requirements:
- A doctoral degree in student affairs/success or higher education administration or related field is required.
Experience/Qualifications:
- A record of progressively increasing responsibilities and effective leadership within student affairs and athletics.
- Experience in student success and retention.
- Demonstrated knowledge in program and policy development, budgeting, planning, execution and evaluation.
- A thorough understanding of student development/leadership.
- A strong appreciation for the dynamic of a residential liberal arts and sciences college environment.
- Evidence of discreet and ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive and confidential issues.
- Understanding of student development/leadership, and trends and issues within Higher education.
A successful candidate will have:
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills that demonstrate the capacity to effectively convey information across all aspects of the residential community.
- Serve as a strong, visible presence on campus and engage meaningfully with all members of the campus community.
- Possess a community-focused approach and place students’ success and their development intellectually, personally, and as leaders at the center of the work.
