Lycoming College is now accepting applications for a part-time Staff Therapist

The Staff Therapist provides general counseling (individual, relationship, and/or group), development and delivery of outreach programming, consultation, crisis intervention, and referral services for students as part of our Counseling Center staff. This position provides general and clinical training and supervision as appropriate to the needs of the Counseling Center.

This is a part-time position that works 720 hours annually at roughly 20 hours per week during the months that school is in session August-May.

What will I do in this role?

 
  • Provide direct client services including psychotherapy, psychological assessment, consultation, referral, and crisis intervention.
  • Ensures counseling support to students, both individually and in groups as needed. As well as, providing services to support and meet the needs of specific populations, including but not limited to, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and International students.
  • Assist in planning, implementation, and assessment of Counseling Services.
  • Provide after-hours crisis intervention.
  • Consult and collaborate with administration, faculty, and staff to ensure students’ psychological needs are being met.
  • Review and determine appropriateness of housing accommodations requested by students.
  • Develop and maintain relationships within Student Life and throughout the College.
  • Provides consultation, education, and outreach services to faculty, staff, students, and parents on developmental, mental health, and harm-reduction/prevention issues.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records of appointments (e.g., intake notes, progress notes, termination summaries)
  • Maintains confidentiality of records.

What are we looking for?

Educational Requirements:
Master's degree and appropriate licensure (or license eligible) in the state of PA in the field of counseling psychology, counselor education, social work, marriage and family therapy, or related field.

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Experience providing clinical counseling services to a college-aged population as well as working with the issues and concerns exhibited in a college-aged population
  • Ability to form effective working relationships with individuals across lines of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, and sexual orientation
  • Interest and experience working with underrepresented populations
  • Experience in developing and providing psycho-educational and risk-reduction programming for a college-aged population
  • Demonstrated multicultural competencies
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and writing skills
  • Professional knowledge of suicide assessment, crisis assessment, crisis management, and referral
  • Experience and skill in the utilization of varied psychotherapeutic treatment modalities
  • Ability to responsibly handle confidential/sensitive information guided by professional ethical standards is critical.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with administration, clinical supervision, progressive outreach programming, and campus consultation services
  • Professional association involvement
  • Additional expertise in at least one other area, including but not limited to multicultural concerns, groups, outreach, developmental issues, mood management, mind-body principles, crisis management, substance abuse, clinical training, supervision, technology, or data/records management

ACT 153 Clearances necessary.
